Our writers express their own views
At The Twelfth Magpie, we do not require our writers to follow a single “company line”.
Whether content appears on our public website or within one of our subscription services, we encourage independent analysis and opinion. We believe investors benefit from being exposed to different perspectives, including viewpoints that may disagree with each other or with the recommendations of one of our advisory services.
Considering multiple sides of an investment case helps investors make more informed decisions.
Disclosure
All Twelfth Magpie employees and contractors are required to disclose their current investment holdings, including shares, funds and cryptocurrencies. These disclosures appear at the end of relevant articles and premium content.
Each premium service operates independently
One question we occasionally receive is:
“I thought The Twelfth Magpie said this company was a buy. Why does another article or service say it’s a sell?”
The answer is simple: The Twelfth Magpie does not maintain an official company-wide view on any investment.
Instead:
- Each subscription-based advisory service provides its own independent assessment of an investment.
- Each service follows a distinct investment strategy, which may focus on different sectors, company sizes, risk profiles or investment styles.
- A service’s current official view can always be found on the relevant company’s summary page within that service.
- Articles published on our public website represent the views of the individual author unless stated otherwise.
When a subscription service changes its official position on an investment, subscribers will be notified through a regular publication or, where appropriate, a dedicated update.
Why we do it this way
Investing is rarely black and white. At any given moment, reasonable investors can reach different conclusions about the same company.
We believe investors are best served by understanding both the bullish and bearish cases for an investment rather than being presented with a single, centrally approved viewpoint.
We recognise that this approach can sometimes be confusing, particularly for new readers. However, we believe the benefits of independent analysis and open debate outweigh that drawback and ultimately help investors make better-informed decisions.
